If your friend is staying the weekend with you, you want to be prepared! Having must have items on hand is important for someone stopping by for the weekend, or if someone spontaneously comes into town! And honestly, most people aren’t that prepared for having guests, so being ready will make you look soo put together – and your guests will thank you!
This list will go over things to consider about your space and how long people are staying, so you can adjust for what you need. Then I’ll go over my essentials to have around! Lets get into it!
Things to consider if your friend is coming to town and staying with you
When you’re planning for anything, you need to adjust for your space and your lifestyle. Making sure the items you have for guests wont be constantly getting in the way and actually fit in your home is so important. You also want to be aware of the number of guests staying and how to accommodate them all.
Here are some must ask question when planning for when a friend is staying the weekend with you.
How many guests?
If you’re planning on having multiple guests, you’re going to need more room and more spaces for people to sleep!
How much room do you have available?
If you live in a apartment you probably don’t have a guest room! Space is valuable in a apartment or any home. If you’re home does have a spare room, you don’t need to worry about it. If you don’t have a spot for them, make sure there is a spot to put some kind of sleeping situation that’s not too in the way of the flow of the home.
How long are the guests staying?
If you have roommates, its kind of difficult to have guests stay for a longer period of time. Make sure you check with your housemates and find a solution that works for everyone.
Must have items for having friends stay overnight at your place
Bed or other sleeping arrangement
Having somewhere for your friend to sleep is a must! It could be a air mattress, a camping cot, or anything similar. This just gives your friend their own space and somewhere to sleep without being in your way as well. Haha!
Towels and sheets
If you don’t live in a house, or you live alone, chances are you don’t just have extra towels laying around. You never know when you might need a extra towel or two so its worth picking a few more up. Double check your current towel color and make sure the new ones match.
You also need extra sheets, pillows, or blankets for your guest to sleep with. No one wants to freeze or sleep on a mattress with nothing else! These come in convenient packs at most stores so they are easy to pick up.
Food
If your guest is mostly staying with you and doing stuff with you, you guys need to eat! Eating out can be a big ask to do for every meal, and cooking at home can be fun and affordable. Before your friend comes into town for the weekend, stock up on some extra food so they have something to eat.
Phone charger
This is by far the most forgotten item whenever anyone goes on a trip or spends the night anywhere! You know the feeling – realizing you left the phone charger at home, and then using other peoples and trying to share is a hassle. If you have a extra phone charger for your place, whenever people some over they will be set! It’s also perfect for when yours stops working and you don’t have time to run out and get a new one right away.
Wifi access
If you’re in an apartment, sometimes wifi access can be weird. See if you have the password or some way to get into it written down so your friend can get in. These is important too for anyone who needs to do some work while they are staying with you.
Bathroom essentials
This is up there with the phone charger! Super easy to forgot is most bathroom supplies. Have a extra toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, face towel on hand and you’re ready for anything. Its also worth checking you have all your own stuff filled up. Check on your soap or toilet paper and make sure you have whatever you (and your guest) needs!
Camera
If your friend is coming into town, chances are you guys are going to go do stuff! Get a fun camera you like and take photos of what you go to do! This is just fun and a great way to document your weekend. Also check out different camera options for what you like, maybe a digital camera or a polaroid suits you best.
Things to do
Before your guest comes into town, make sure you have ideas about things to go do. This could be a museum, going out for drinks or dinner, a bike ride, tour of the town, and more. This just makes it easier to plan when you already have activities in mind.
