When it comes to valentines day, galentines day is where the real fun happens! Getting together with all your girls is one of the best parts of the holiday. And, with any holiday party, there is lots to be planned and organized for the party – yes, I’m talking about your galentines day decor. In my mind if you’re going to plan a party and invite everyone over, you may as well go all out!
This post is a complete guide on how to elevate your galentines day decor.
What is galantines day?
Some history, galentine’s Day is a fictional holiday that was popularized by the television show “Parks and Recreation.” The character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, introduced the concept of galentine’s Day in a 2010 episode. Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day.
You can celebrate galentines day anytime, the weekend before or after valentines day works well as usually everyone is off work. The whole point is to find time to connect with women in your life that you love and have had an impact on you. This is a great way to celebrate with one another and show appreciation for the ladies you love in your life.
Galentines day is usually celebrated with a brunch or another activity with your girls. Movie nights, dinners, or a gift exchange are great options as well!
Places to host your galantines day
When it comes to hosting your galentines, there is a lot to consider. I would recommend writing down things you and your friends already like to do so you can find a event that suits everyone. Take into account how many people will be there, the budget, and how much food and such you might need.
Here are some of my favorite ideas to celebrate galentines day this year.
-
Home Brunch Party:
- Host a cozy brunch at your home. You can prepare some delicious brunch items or go for potluck style where each friend brings a dish.
- Decorate with flowers, balloons, and other festive items that match the holiday. This would be a great time for a photo wall as well!
-
Outdoor Picnic:
- If the weather is nice, consider having a picnic in a local park. Pack some snacks, sandwiches, and drinks. My go to snack picnic store is Trader Joes, where you can find a ton of options.
- Bring blankets and cushions for seating, and be sure to dress up and take photos!
-
Spa Day:
- Treat yourselves to a spa day at a local spa or wellness center. Book massages, facials, or get your nails done together. Many places offer group packages, making it a great option for a Galentine’s Day weekend retreat.
-
Wine Tasting:
- Visit a local winery or wine bar for a tasting session. Some places also offer wine and painting events, which is a perfect event for galentines!
-
Cooking Class:
- Take a cooking class together. Learning to make a new dish can be a fun and interactive way to bond with your girls.
- Choose a cuisine you all enjoy and turn it a whole thing. You even get to eat together after!
-
Dinner Out:
- Plan a reservation and meet your girls out for dinner one night, you can even bring gifts and do a small gift exchange while you’re there.
- You can all dress up, take photos, and catch up over a fancy dinner!
Galentines day ideas and inspiration
Dress up together
This is a super cute way to get photos with your girls. Pick a color (ahem, pink!) and get matching or similar dresses and take photos together! These photos are perfect for the gram and 100% pinterest worthy. If you don’t have someone to take photos for you, set up a self timer on your phone and so it that way. There are also photo booths in most cities if you want to go somewhere with a cute premade background. This is also a fun activity to go do before lunch or whatever!
Galentines day cards
The cutest cards for galentines day gifts! These are perfect to write little letters to each of your friends or attach to a gift for a gift exchange. You can find cute cards like this at most stores, but try to find a cute gift shop set up in your area – because they usually have cards from smaller companies that (usually!) have cuter designs.
Charcuterie setup
Putting together a charcuterie board setup is one of the best ways to entertain without having to cook a ton! You can buy pretty much everything pre made and put it together yourself. Just find a large cutting board and arrange the dips, cheeses, meats, and crackers however you see best. There are also tons of places to buy charcuterie boards from if you don’t want to make one yourself.
If you don’t want to do a charcuterie board, getting snacks, treats, and other food is a great way to host without a ton of effort. You and your girls could even make your own treats as part of galentines day!
Photo wall
If you’re hosting galentines at home, a photo wall is a must! It could be as glammed up as the one above, or as simple as a pink sheet against the wall. Make sure you put it in a spot with good lighting and you’re set!
If you want a larger balloon arch setup like the one above there are tons of balloon companies in most cities you can commission to set one up for you – or build one yourself! Youtube is my go to spot to learn how to DIY decor ideas!
