This post is all about tips and hacks for your apartment to elevate the look and make it look way more put together. These are easy and budget friendly ways to elevate any space for your college apartment or any home!
Let’s be honest, those Pinterest pins you have saved in your first apartment board are NOTHING like how it actually is when you first move in. A lot of the times, you don’t even know where to start when it comes to apartment decor, organization, and unpacking!
After trying to pack all your clothes, furniture, and other essentials, most people’s apartments don’t really feel like a home for a while after moving in.
But don’t despair! This is a process that takes time, and I’ve gone ahead and put together a list of steps you can start to take to make your first apartment look better and feel more like your home.
In fact, if you’re moving into a smaller apartment, my list of dorm decor hacks are super applicable and can help you find that extra storage in every nook and corner!
#1 – Throw pillows and blankets
Okay ok, we’ve all heard this before but it’s for good reason!
It is crazy how much more put together a space can look with the extra dimension and texture that a couple pillows or a big fluffy knit can bring.
Plus, making your bed and putting all the throw pillows back on it each morning not only makes you look more like an adult, but feel like one too.
I would start with a simple light colored bed spread and then jazz it up from there. I tend to lean towards one color as my accent color and use muted tones of that to help make my space more homey.
For example, this throw pillow set and this chunky knit blanket would complement a space so well together, especially if you have plants or other touches of green. They also come in a variety of colors to match whatever your style is!
#2 – Matching plates and bowls
Okay, the time for those plastic 50 cent bowls and plates that you find at target are over. They aren’t very durable, get scratched up easily, and don’t look nice.
Besides, no one wants to worry about microplastics getting in our food.
I switched over to the Corelle plates and bowls and they are PERFECT for any college student. They are known to be durable and won’t break easily. They come in a simple white and look extra classy in any space and will last you through this apartment and your next!
Here is a set of corelle that should take care of everything you (and probably your roommate) needs.
#3 – Storage ottomans
Honestly, it feels like you can never have enough storage, especially when you have roommates.
I started using an ottoman that opens up inside so I can store stuff in it and allows for extra seating in my room. When your space is cluttered, so is your mind. Plus, having everything cleaned up when you come home or bring people over makes you look a lot more put together. AKA, Its the perfect addition to your apartment decor.
This storage ottoman is perfect for any space. And it isn’t that expensive at 56 dollars, which I think is reasonable for furniture that’s going to last through this apartment and probably your next!
#4 – Matching pots for your plants
If you’re a plant person like me, you know how we buy plants but their pots never match and can kind of start to make your windowsill look a little crazy? Yeah.
Taking the time to do something as small as getting matching pots for your plants, or even little stands, can really make your space look mature and put together. Plus you can put these plants in various nooks like the top of your fridge that can really elevate the space.
Anything like this set of plant pots is perfect to do just that. Depending on the size, you can even just set your old pots inside the new ones, so you won’t have to repot anything.
#5 – Eucalyptus in the shower
Okay, this is your sign to actually put together this super cute bathroom look that we have all seen and LOVED. A little greenery touch in any space is always welcome and it really makes your bathroom look more inviting.
Putting some eucalyptus in your shower makes your shower look and smell 10x better than without. Plus this is a super super easy apartment decor addition that takes basically not time at all.
Here is a super simple set of eucalyptus you can buy, and it’s super reasonably priced!
#6 – Bathroom decor and storage rack
You know that sort of empty wall in your bathroom that nothing seems to fit in and look nice? Well, any kind of cute bathroom rack is a perfect addition to that spot.
They are super cute, easy to put together, and the biggest bonus of all – gives you sooo much extra storage.
This bathroom rack is one of my favorites to really take your bathroom up a level.
#7 – Scented oils
These things are probably the cutest and easiest apartment decor hack ever.
They are so simple and classy and make your home smell amazing. My freshman year roommate used these and everyone who would come over always complimented how they made our space smell.
This is a super cute scented oil set that comes with the jar, the rods, and the oil. You can pick how strong you want it to be based on how many rods you put in!
I hope these tips help you bring your apartment to the next level! Feel free to save this post for later should you not quite be ready to try some of these ideas out yet 😉
